Climate of change, the Catholic church'ss dance with science



From Galileo to genetics, the Roman Catholic Church has danced with science, sometimes in a high-tension tango but more often in a supportive waltz. Pope Francis is about to introduce a new twist: global warming.
The field of genetics was started by a Catholic cleric, Gregor Mendel. Entire aspects of astronomy, including the genesis of the Big Bang theory, began with members of the Catholic clergy. While some religions reject evolution, Catholicism has said for 65 years that it fits with the story of creation.

Pastor Shot Outside Connecticut Church as He Put Up Flags for Memorial Day

A Connecticut pastor was shot outside his church early Sunday morning (May 24) as he put flags outside the church for Memorial Day. NBC Connecticut reports Rev. Dr. Augustus Sealy was shot twice in the right leg and once in the left shoulder in a drive-by shooting outside First Church of the Nazarene in Hartford.

The New Pew Survey on Religion & Lament for Nominal Christianity

A new Pew survey shows the number of Americans identifying as Christians declining from 78% to 70% since 2007. The religiously unaffiliated have increased from 15 to almost 23%. Non-Christian religionists have increased from about 5 to 6%.
